I bought this truck in Oakland, in 1976. Restoration work was professionally done in 1980-81. Body & paint work, wood in bed replaced, upholstery and headliner done. There are no dents or dings in the body. The paint was done in Centari enamel, and has a number of small chips, which have mostly been touched up. Mechanical work includes: engine rebuilt (bored to +.040, clutch, brakes, wheel bearings, radiator recored, water pump rebuilt). Most of the wiring was replaced with harnesses from Rhode Island Wiring. Chrome was plated or polished at the time of restoration.
The truck was recently converted to 12 volt, using a 135A Ford Taurus alternator with built-in regulator. Starter was rebuilt with 12 volt windings, new armature, bearings and brushes. I just added a 12 volt BMW pusher fan in front of the radiator because I was toying with the idea of adding air conditioning, but I didn't get around to the A/C project.
At the time of restoration, I made sure that the correct pickup truck items were used, so the correct front bumper guards are mounted, there are no inappropriate fender lights or name badges on the hood, and only the original single tail/stop light is mounted.
I believe that this truck has lived its whole life in the East San Francisco Bay Area. When I got it in 1976, the words "Frank's Plumbing - El Cerrito" could be made out under the paint. This is a great looking truck, and I've enjoyed just seeing it in my garage, even though I rarely drove it. I have reached the point in life where it is time to start simplifying.
